After a request for a text message, WhatsApp expired, and its CEO, Will Cathcart, announced the reinstatement of the messaging app, saying WhatsApp was "working again. "Facebook-owned social media platforms, which include WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook itself, have a problem around 8:30 pm PST worldwide. The platforms returned online at about 4am PST after a seven-hour shutdown. "We are back now and we are working now," the WhatsApp manager on Twitter said on Tuesday.

"We know that people have not been able to use WhatsApp to communicate with their friends, family, businesses, community groups, and more today - a humbling reminder of how much organizations and people rely on our daily app," Cathcart said his company takes its work seriously. In a tweet, he thanked his team members for their efforts to restore the functionality of the project.

"Thank you to everyone who worked hard to bring our service back with the loyalty you expect from WhatsApp," he said. "We will learn and grow from this, and continue to work to provide you with a simple, secure, and reliable confidential messaging app."
