There are no concerts, fireworks on New Year's Eve in Lahore this year

LAHORE - Regional administrators in the country's cultural capital have announced the closure of community concerts, fireworks displays, air shootings, and other events to mark New Year's Eve.

The development comes after Lahore was declared the world's most polluted city by air quality monitor, as residents trapped in smoldering smoke are urging officials to take action to end air pollution.

Smoke has intensified in some parts of the Punjab in recent years, as low-grade diesel fumes from plant burns at certain times of the year, and cold winter temperatures combine to form cloudy smoke clouds.

At the same time, the authorities also rejected all applications for permission to display fireworks in the big city on New Year's Eve - which is usually celebrated at evening parties, where many people watch or light fireworks.

Public concerts and other events were closed due to security concerns and the wide range of Omicron diversity in South Asia.

Air firing is also strictly prohibited as scores of people are injured and killed as a result of the exciting shootings on New Year's Eve and at other times.
