Many roads in Murree were cleared amid requests for visitors to return home
LAHORE - Ninety percent of the streets of the Pakistani city of Murree have been repaired after at least 22 tourists were killed when their vehicles were stranded on the streets due to a severe storm.
Punjab police announced the development on Twitter, adding that all people trapped in their cars on snow-covered roads were taken to government restrooms and other safe areas.
The rescuers were given food, warm clothing and medicine, police said.

According to special orders from Pakistan Air official, several Crisis Management cells have been set up at Kalabagh and Lower Topa bases to help workers and families in need, according to a PAF statement.
In addition, private schools and colleges have opened their own facilities to accommodate needy visitors.
Despite several warnings issued and the tragic deaths of snow tourists, a large number of people are present at the various entrances to Murree to visit the hill station. Guardians and community officials have set up several pickups to prevent people from climbing a mountain.
Security officials are urging people to return home as Murree has been declared a disaster area where no one is allowed to enter the car on Sunday.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed confirmed 22 accidents - 10 men, 10 children and two women - in a tragic incident in Murree, one of the most popular tourist destinations, 64 km (40 miles) northeast of the capital Islamabad. .
Experts believe that most snowmakers die of hypothermia and some die from carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had predicted heavy snowfall in the Murree and Galiyat areas from January 6 to 9. The tragic incident happened despite a number of Met Office warnings and warnings.
Opposition leaders have blamed the government for failing to address the growing number of visitors and officials who have been criticizing the public for failing to comply with weather forecasts.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also been seen criticizing tourists for negligence.
"Unprecedented snowfall and ppl rush without monitoring the weather have been caught by the unprepared district manager," Khan said on Twitter, adding that he had ordered an investigation into the incident.

Earlier, the Punjab government declared Murree a disaster-stricken area due to a snowstorm.
On Friday evening, authorities announced that they would close roads leading to Murree all weekend "in the public interest."
Authorities in Rawalpindi said on Saturday more than 23,000 blocked vehicles had been evacuated from Murree, adding that rescue efforts were continuing to evacuate others.

On the other hand, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has closed down tourist attractions, including Naran, Kagan and Shogra, in the Mansehra region due to bad weather.
A strong western wave hit the western and upper parts of Pakistan earlier this week, producing rain and snow. It is predicted that the venues will hold until Sunday.
